Professional and Artistic Experience (in detail)
June 2016 - present
Screenwriter
Working on a script for a live-action courtroom drama based on true events and was documented in court files, news reports, and testimonials.
February 2019 - June 2023
Director and Writer, Storyboard Artist, Voice Actor and Director, Animator and Compositor - Pipe Vortex
Based on an event that almost happened during the polar vortex week of late January to early February 2019, the story revolves around a pipe burst-induced electrical fire that burns an apartment building in Chicago, with Chappelle Show style humor being executed in a simplistic Adventure Time-like art style.
I wrote the screenplay on Final Draft, drew the storyboards on Storyboard Pro, and did animation and compositing on Harmony, while putting all the scenes together on Premiere Pro. New scenes were added at some point that weren't in the animatic to make it more visually interesting and to further advance my animation skills.
Like Office Race, I did additional voices and vocal effects for the hose while providing voice direction for the actor playing the lead roles and other additional voices.
April 2019 - May 2019
Director, Writer, Animator, Editor, and Videographer - Plainfield 1990: The F5 Phantom
A documentary multimedia short that was a final project for a class that touched on Natural Disasters like earthquakes, hurricanes, and winter weather. This is on the tornado that hit the town I lived in for 17 years: Plainfield, Illinois.
I used a YouTube downloading site for some of the clips that came from YouTube, along with using an SD Canon camcorder I have used since 2010 for some shots that weren't from YouTube, and the short itself was compiled together on Premiere Pro with music from Future Heroes.
There were also interviews incorporated into the short from survivors of the tornado and Plainfield historians: Sue Hasenyager, a retired Plainfield Central High School Teacher, and Linda Keene, a retired Homer Junior High School teacher.
Since the final was meant to incorporate my animation major, I also did animation on mostly Toon Boom Harmony, while one shot was done on After Effects, and another was done on Photoshop, with Zephyron, the tornado robot from ADR, as narrator of the short. James Cummings (Timelord1452 on YouTube and Twitter) provides the voice for Zephyron, working with a script made on Final Draft 11, with modulation done on Adobe Audition.
September 2018 - May 2019
Various Roles - Office Race
Throughout the year-round Columbia College Chicago class of Animation Production Studio, I, along with many other students, was given multiple roles in the production of the short film titled Office Race. This was meant to give students a feel of what it's like to work in the industry when producing a hand-drawn animated film.
Temporary Production Manager (for two weeks):
Used Excel Spreadsheets for assigned roles and other notes such as presentations for the films that were being pitched in class
Kept track of people's assignments and roles in terms of deadlines
Storyboard Artist:
Before this film, was the main storyboard artist for an iteration of Red Riding Hood that was supposed to be done in the style of Samurai Jack, which had a short action sequence and gore, and was a film that was never picked due to confusion with the writing of the middle act for the story and difficulty that comes with animating action sequences.
Drew boards that showed the whole story in the style of Adventure Time. A lot of the sequences ended up being essential to the main story such as having the characters be anthropomorphic animals instead of humans, showing a goofy tone with exaggerated faces, and bits with a main character going crazy from drinking energy drinks in excess (although the energy drink part was replaced with the hare being desperate in asking for people to make a sale on cruises with him).
Drew two sequences involving the animated equivalent of Toby Flenderson from the Office; one where the HR character fired an elephant for taking a day-off to spend time with a grandson instead of a doctor’s visit, and refused to give a doctor’s note, and the other one involved HR breaking up the crowd that gathered around the tortoise and hare when they made the bet. They were unused because one of them involved a true story in the HR world that may not fit the story at all, while the other had repetitive boards. The character would have compromised the whole story with getting someone fired and having a threatening presence to background characters.
My second key contribution that made it in the film was boarding the conclusion involving the hare getting hung on by phone and feeling frustrated, introduced characters such as the carrier pigeon character delivering a postcard at the end and the penguin waiter for the cruise, and contrasted between their character arcs with hare getting more work dumped on him, while the tortoise is relaxing on a cruise with a stinger showing that she sold products to her family and friends, who are all tortoises and turtles.
Voice Director:
Scouted out and reviewed demo reels of voice talent to invite for auditions for particular roles in the film, paying close attention to delivery of the given monologue for actors and the creative vision of the film itself.
Scheduled recording sessions by email with audio people, to do auditions for voice actors that fit certain roles.
Created a dialogue or “As Recorded” script of the dialogue spoken throughout the story (meant for board-driven content); this was for the actors at the recording session to make isolation of dialogue takes easier.
Supervised and took notes at the voice recording session and made sure every line of dialogue for the film was recorded via Pro Tools handled by audio engineer.
Voice Actor:
I played Pamela, the aforementioned carrier pigeon character I created for the film’s conclusion.
Dialogue Editor:
Was in charge of securing and handling of the audio files for dialogue editing to be done for the reels and film via Adobe Audition
Collaborated with Director and Producer to select and edit final dialogue takes to be used for each sequence in the film
Sent the dialogue takes to the Timing Director for the Story Reel of each sequence
Sound Design:
Picked out sound effects to be used for the film itself for the lead sound designer to use.
Picked out temporary music tracks for the musical score that's being used in certain parts of the film.
Animator:
Provided rough and clean-up animation for select few scenes of the film based on key posing and the given character model sheets via Toon Boom Harmony.
Painter:
Painted a few layouts on Photoshop and characters in cleaned-up animations on Harmony, while fixing some problems with the characters who felt off-model or had jutting lines in their frames.
Key Compositor:
Through the use of Toon Boom Harmony, I put together the completed animation and layouts together, added some technical animation like tracking shots and camera zooms, used nodes for layering purposes, and checked for continuity errors with Technical Director.
February 2019 - April 2019
Director, Storyboard Artist, Animator, and Compositor - Into Your Eyes
A lip-sync test that was done with a song and has a simplistic story with animation and compositing done through Toon Boom Harmony.
November 2018 - December 2018
Director, Storyboard Artist, Vocal Effects Artist, and After Effects Animator and Compositor - Blue Mercy
My first short film that was drawn on Photoshop and animated/composited on After Effects for Digital Animation Techniques - Current 2D Trends class, where the objective was to make cheap animations for a quick buck. My story was a dark fantasy short about the titular nature spirit coming across a blight in the forest it was protecting.
I also provided vocal effects for the two creatures involved with the short.
March 2018 - September 2019
Director, Storyboard Artist, Animator, Voice Actor, and Compositor -
Omega Hazard Version 2
Released officially on September 5, 2019. Within Acting for Animators and Digital Animation Techniques - Ink, Paint, and Composite classes, I revised the backstory and design of the main human character of this show idea I want to make into a full series someday.
Thus, I did everything but the sound design, such as:
Storyboarding and animatic editing via Storyboard Pro
Character and layout design
Animation (character and technical) and compositing on Harmony
Vocal effects for the creatures and even the voice for David the main character since his gender was changed this time
Editing on Premiere Pro
September 2017 - August 2019
Director, Storyboard Artist, Animator, Voice Actor and Director, and Compositor -
Omega Hazard Version 1
Released officially on August 19, 2019. My main pilot from Animation Preproduction class that I did every facet of production on except for the sound design, such as:
Screenwriting through Celtx
Storyboarding and animatic editing/timing on Storyboard Pro
Character and layout design, animation and compositing on Harmony and After Effects
Voice direction for the voice actor of the main human character (with some echo effects done on Audition)
Vocal effects for the two creatures involved (with modulation done on Audition)
Even the editing on Premiere Pro
March 2017 - May 2017
Director, Voice Actor and Director, Storyboard Artist, Animatic Editor, and Animator -
Project Kirithra
I created the storyboards and eventually animatic for this short film made for Storyboarding for Animation class.
I drew the designs and staged everything to the beat of select songs from the hit horror movie, Get Out, while providing voice direction for the actors involved with the characters.
I also provided the vocal effects for the titular monster with modulation to add to the horror of the story.
Sound Design was done by me through sound effects found online, vocal effects, and foley.
